Day of Appointment FAQs

1.) Will I be allergy tested on the day of my first appointment?

If it is needed, we will make every effort to test you on the same day as your consultation. You must be off antihistamines such as Benadryl (diphendydramine), Claritin (loratadine), Zyrtec (cetirizine), Allegra (fexofenadine), Xyzal (levocetirizine), or hydroxyzine for at least 4 days prior to your visit. You do not need to stop your asthma inhalers or Singulair (montelukast). Nose sprays such as Flonase are also ok. Hidden sources of antihistamine are meds such as Tylenol PM or Advil PM. Some cough and cold medications may also have antihistamines.
Some insurance companies, such as 1199, will not cover testing on the same day as your initial consult visit.

2.) Does the testing hurt?

The first line of testing involves plastic applicators and feels similar to a firm plastic comb touching your skin. There are no needles involved!! We test patients of all ages with the same method. It is best if you wear short sleeves or a tank top for testing so your arms are easily accessible.

3.) Is there parking?

There is ample parking attached to the building. We are located on the second floor in suite 201. The entire building is wheelchair accessible.

4.) Is testing covered by my insurance?

Most insurances cover allergy testing but there may be a cap to the number of tests you are allowed in one year. If you have a high deductible, the testing may go towards your deductible. Some insurances may have an extra co-pay for allergy testing.

5. What should I bring with me to the appointment?

It is helpful if you print and complete the forms from our website. Don’t forget to bring your insurance card and a form of ID. If your insurance requires a referral we will need to see it before you can be treated. If you are on any medications, please bring a list or bring the medications with you. If you have had any recent bloodwork related to your condition or have had previous relevant testing, it is helpful for the doctor to review it. Also, if you have rashes or hives, it is very helpful if you take photos for the doctor to see in case the rash or hives have resolved or changed by the day of your appointment.

6. If I need blood work or a urine test, do you draw it in the office?

We do not draw blood in the office, we will give you a lab slip so you can take it to the laboratory preferred by your insurance company.

7. Does any staff member speak Spanish in the office?

EVERYONE speaks Spanish in the office. The receptionist, nurse, and doctor all speak Spanish. The doctor also speaks Hindi/Punjabi.

7. Does the doctor see kids? 

We see all age groups in this office – babies, children, and adults.
